Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) proponent San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is open to having a dialogue with groups opposing the proposed elevated toll road to settle issues concerning the project, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Thursday.
“Pinangako ng proponent na sa pagbuo ng proyektong ito magkakaroon ng continuous dialogue and continuous sharing of information…,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said during the Senate Committee on Finance’s hearing on the agency’s proposed P150.76-billion budget for 2022.
(The proponent promised continuous dialogue and continuous sharing of information as the project develops.)
“Kung may mga alinlagan ang ibang sector, handa ho ang tinatawag na proponent na makipag dialogo sa kanila,” Tugade said.
(If other sectors have doubts, the proponent is ready to have a dialogue with them.)
In a press conference on Wednesday, Move as One Coalition said PAREX could destroy the environment, neglect heritage conservation, and worsen traffic problems.
SMC president Ramong Ang addressed criticism against the project amid concerns on its impact to traffic and environment as well as being an eyesore to heritage structures along the Pasig River banks.
SMC broke ground for the 19.37-kilometer PAREX last week, days after it secured government approval for the project.
The PAREX secured the government’s approval after Ang, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) executive director Alvin Carullo signed the Supplemental Toll Operations Agreement (STOA).
The P95-billion project, which will be fully-financed by SMC, is seen to be a six-lane elevated expressway that will run along the banks of the river, from Radial Road 10 in Manila to C-6 Road or the South East Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME) in Taguig City.
Once operational, PAREX will link the eastern and western cities of Metro Manila and will connect to the Skyway system. -NB, GMA News
