For the determined Managing Partner, the mentoring starts every morning when a financial advisor goes to his desk and starts to think of their clients as themselves, to put themselves in their shoes.
MP Rodel emphasized that it’s all about purpose and thinking of others, “You must know your deep WHY, kasi diyan nanggagaling lahat ng motivation natin [because that’s where our motivation comes from]. As a Life Changer, you must know why you are doing what you are doing. For example, most (agents and clients) wake up in the morning for their families.”
As a Life Changer, you don’t need to figure out your “why” alone. And this is the great thing about the collaborative mentorship at Allianz.
MP Rodel admitted that he was not a born leader. Still, over time, he acquired more leadership skills, learned how to manage people better, and came to understand the deeper purpose of becoming a trustworthy leader in the insurance industry.
“You’ll know you are in a good insurance company when you learn that to be a great leader, you must be humble.”
From a mentor’s perspective, MP Rodel believes that servant-leadership and empathy provide a good training ground. “You should be a servant-leader overseeing the team, and you should have the virtue of knowing how your team feels, as well as how your clients feel. Empathy is needed to identify great leaders in this industry. They should have this value alongside striving for excellence.”
As a mentor, MP Rodel won’t hesitate to become your trusted ally, “I usually look for some traits that I did not have. People with these other traits help complete the team.”
