CEBU — In light of looser travel restrictions and the peak summer season, budget carrier Cebu Pacific is expecting a full restoration of its pre-COVID-19 pandemic domestic flight capacity by next month.
Cebu Pacific CEO Lance Gokongwei said the airline is currently operating at 96% of its pre-pandemic domestic capacity.
“We look forward to restoring our 100% domestic capacity by next month. We are committed to sustaining our recovery,” Gokongwei said during Cebu Pacific’s 26th anniversary celebration at the Mactan Cebu International Airport on Tuesday.
In a separate statement, Cebu Pacific said it recorded a 200% increase in its average daily flights for both domestic and international combined—from about 100 flights per day in 2020 to about 300 at present.
Flights from Manila to key domestic destinations such as Boracay and Cebu have exceeded their 2019 flight frequencies, it said.
According to Cebu Pacific, the improvement has enabled the airline to carry more passengers and boost its cargo service, which means faster and more efficient movement of goods across its domestic network.
“We expect revenues to get back 60% to 70% to where it was in 2019,” Gokongwei said.
200 millionth passenger
Cebu Pacific also achieved another milestone as it flew its 200 millionth passenger on board one of its 18 daily Manila-Cebu flights, a route which was the first flown by the airline in 1996.

Salbert Garces, the 200 millionth passenger, was awarded with one year of unlimited domestic flights.
Cebu Pacific operates the widest domestic network in the Philippines covering 33 destinations, on top of its 14 international destinations.
It has a fleet of 74 aircraft, which includes two dedicated ATR freighters. — VBL, GMA News
