PLDT-Smart fully restores services, Globe fully operational in quake-hit areas

PLDT Inc., and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc., said Friday it has fully restored fixed and wireless services in areas hit by the magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted Northern Luzon on Wednesday morning.

In a statement, PLDT-Smart said that services may still be affected by the availability of commercial power in places that bore the brunt of the tremors.

Meanwhile, Globe Telecom Inc. said its network has also remained fully operational since the earthquake, “providing reliable connectivity amid emergency and disaster relief operations.”

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed public telecommunications entities to swiftly repair and restore their services in areas severely affected by Wednesday’s earthquake in Abra.

The NTC earlier ordered telecommunications companies to provide free call and charging services in the quake-hit areas.

PLDT-Smart said it deployed free calls and free WiFi stations to serve the communication needs in areas affected by the tremor.

Globe, likewise, said it provided free calls, free WiFi connectivity, and free charging station in Bangued town.
