BDO clients who lost cash ask when they’d get money back

Clients of BDO who lost their funds to unauthorized bank transfers are wondering when they would get their money back as Christmas draws near.

According to Maki Pulido’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, one of the affected clients Eugenio Deocareza said he lost P150,000 due to the scam.

“Bakit may pa-OTP OTP pa sila eh na-bypass ang OTP this time. Ano ‘to? Bye-bye money na ba ‘to kasi nagoyo na tayo eh,” Deocareza said.

“Kailan sila magde-decide na ibigay? After Christmas? After New Year? Tapos na ang boksing ng pangangailangan ng tao,” he added.

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group said hackers had been getting better with their techniques.

“Paano nata-transfer ang funds without getting the OTP? So itong mga hackers, magaling na sila,” PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group spokesperson Lieutenant Michelle Sabino said.

Earlier, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno said BSP was already coordinating with stakeholders for the reimbursement of the reported unauthorized bank transfers.

Over the weekend, a number of BDO clients fell victim to fraudulent schemes, with the firm saying it will reimburse losses of the affected clients.

“We are aware of a sophisticated fraud technique that has affected some of our clients. We assure you that we have already implemented additional security controls to block further attempts and continue to protect bank credentials,” BDO said in a statement.

The funds supposedly duped from BDO account holders were reportedly then transferred to an account with another bank.

“We assure our affected innocent clients that we will reimburse their losses,” BDO said. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/NB, GMA News
